AUTHOR’S NOTE: During this Year of Marriage and the Family, I propose to write a pastoral letter on these themes, spaced out in monthly installments. I would like to address topics such as the nature of marriage, the importance of sexuality and conjugal love, the gift of children, the ancient roots of marriage, the reality of an enduring natural law of marriage, the virtue of chastity, the theology of the body, the sacramental nature of marriage, the relationship between marriage and priestly celibacy, holistic marriage versus artificial interventions, the varying forms of family life, the duties of parents and of children, and finally a spirituality of marriage. In these reflections, I will be drawing upon the Church’s profound teaching and lived tradition, as well as contemporary sources of understanding.
