2-17-12 LETTER TO THE EDITOR: National Day of Prayer
Given the recent assault on religious freedom and the U.S. bishops’ responses to the pressures of the current administration, it is abundantly clear our country is in serious need of prayer. I believe a prayer event that Catholics have been notably absent is the National Day of Prayer. This is a day that all Americans are called to pray for our country and our leaders.
Participation in the National Day of Prayer was an objective that was incorporated in the five-year strategic plan at Ave Maria Parish in Parker. Last year, we participated as a parish, along with Ave Maria School, and plan to hold another event this year. The theme this year is “One Nation Under God” and will be celebrated on May 3.
I would strongly encourage other parishes in the diocese to plan an event. We have been absent far too long and are paying the price for it now. Catholics need to engage in the welfare of the country, and this is an excellent way to do so.
