Letters to the Editor

9-3-10 Our God is not genderless
In response to Mary Corriston’s letter of Aug. 20 ("Offended by Vatican statement"), I would like to offer some thoughts on the matter. There was a time when I also wondered why women couldn’t be priests, as other denominations seemed to have no issues with this. But as I began learning more about my faith and our rich Catholic heritage, I learned there were some very good reasons for this.

9-3-10 On changes to the Missal
I read with great interest the changes which are about to take place in the Mass in Father Daniel Merz’s recent columns in The Colorado Catholic Herald.

9-3-10 Thanks for special collection
We received your recent check (from the Diocese of Colorado Springs) for $23,108.58. This amount has been posted to the 2010 Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe and will appear in our annual report.

8-20-10 Re: Mercy Center decree
The Aug. 6 issue of The Colorado Catholic Herald had a decree from Bishop Sheridan forbidding any sacramental activity at the Mercy Center here in Colorado Springs. I know very little about the background leading to this decree and so cannot speak to it.

8-20-10 Priest appreciation day thanks
I cannot put in to words the deep gratitude that I have for everyone’s help in making the inaugural Catholic Radio Network Priest and Seminarian Appreciation Day (Aug. 9) a reality. The tireless effort that our volunteers put into the event paid off in ways that many people, including myself, found unimaginable just a few short months ago.

8-20-10 Offended by Vatican statement
As a woman in the Catholic Church, I can’t help but be deeply offended by the Vatican’s labeling of the "attempted ordination of a woman" as a "grave crime" ("Vatican toughens sex abuse norms," Aug. 6 issue).

8-20-10 CRS thankful for Haiti aid
On behalf of the USCCB Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), we express our heartfelt thanks to you and your faithful for your contributions to help our brothers and sisters in Haiti after the devastating earthquake of Jan. 12.
